BA PA and soon-to-be CF-SLP
It was so nice to catch up with everyone and hear all about their lives. It was not so fun telling people "oh, I'm interviewing for jobs now aka I'm your typical millenial living at home and working part time while I wait for the right job opportunity" while hearing about their amazing lives, but I loved hearing how successful everyone is and how they enjoy what they do. Not only do people clean up nice and look spiffy in their wedding attire, but they also grow up nice.
But what struck me most was the makeup of table I was sitting at - one lawyer apparently doing a bang-up job, one BA PA who runs a clinic and makes a difference in so many lives daily, one nutritionist with a brand new job in her field, one almost-SLP about to get a job at a prestigious hospital, and three doctoral students who are in various stages of doneness who are making strides in important (or at least important-sounding!) research.
Apart from the staggering amount of money paid for all these graduate educations added up around the table, there was also a staggering amount of brain power and barely-tapped potential. Not to mention a whole bunch of letters behind those names. Looking around the table and participating in conversation, I was very proud of this group and all the other friends who were present or not present who are also successful or on the way to success. And I think one of the reasons for this was not only attending a great school (sic 'em bears), but also joining great organizations (tau beta sigma, kappa kappa psi, and bugwb) that helped us maximize our potential to grow into adults who can sit together at a wedding and revel in each others' successes. It's pretty nice. Good job, college friends. Keep up the awesome work.
