The Elite Eight

I like winning. I think everyone does. (Who wouldn't?) There's nothing like the sense of accomplishment that comes with a job well done. Fortunately, that same feeling of accomplishment can be gained simply by watching a team full of athletes who have worked hard and happen to be representing your alma mater on tv as they play a terrific game of basketball. Good thing, because otherwise, March would be a really boring month. Or maybe not, it's pretty here with all the flowering trees and stuff. But I tell you what, this past Wednesday night with not a single NCAA tournament game on was rough. It's like when the Olympics ends. What are you supposed to do with your life then??

But yesterday, the Man Bears won against Xavier and Quincy Acy showed his stuff. Today, the Lady Bears showed why they're number 1 with an excellent show against Georgia Tech. And, since a little style never hurts, Britney Griner completed her second Dunk! in as many games.

I love seeing my teams do well and representing themselves and Baylor excellently in the national spotlight. The next games, Man Bears vs Kentucky and Lady Bears vs Tennessee, will be the hardest tests so far this year. There is no room for mistakes in the Elite Eight. There is no excuse for displaying a lack of drive in the Elite Eight. There is no place for anything but the best in the Elite Eight.

I don't get to watch the Lady Bears on Monday because I will be dissecting a larynx (no big deal...) but I will be cheering for them and probably bothering my classmates about it all evening long. But tomorrow? Well, I'd like to just apologize to my neighbors right now for shouts of disappointment and/or excitement for tomorrow's game.

Sic 'em Bears. Always.
