Happy Mother's Day to all the wonderful moms out there! I think that every day should be mother's day, because we would literally be nowhere without them. I hope all the moms of the world feel appreciated and loved today.
Moms do so much for us. "Mother" is both a noun, the person who raises us, and a verb, the actions she does to accomplish that task. They endure months of pain and sickness and cravings and who knows what to bear us. They wipe butts and spoon in goop and clean up messes and let us start grabbing for our independence with both little fists. They check homework and backpacks and run to the grocery store to get a bag of M&Ms that the teacher says are needed for a project in the morning. They spend time and money signing us up for soccer and piano lessons and doing annual back-to-school clothes shopping and making sure we and all our friends have a great time at birthday parties. They wipe our tears when we don't get an A or make the team or get first chair, and later when we get dumped or when we wreck our cars or suffer from some other form of heartbreak. Then, they even let us go when we decide to move away and go to school, knowing that "only" 90 miles will feel like half a continent. They show us how to do our taxes and how to budget for groceries and cook a favorite meal. And some day, they will show us how to be mothers ourselves (don't worry, mom, that's wayyyyyyyyyyy in the future - I'm just saying some day).
And even on Mother's Day, they keep doing their jobs. I'm going to call my mom in a few minutes, and I know that a large portion of our conversation will be about my life and successes and worries, even on her special day. I guess "mother" is a verb that never stops. And we should all be infinitely grateful for that.
Happy Mother's Day, mommy. I love you!
