So I have been home for a few days now, and being home is really nice. Busy. But nice.
But while I've been home, I've been missing my kitty! She is staying in Nashville with the nice lady who owns the place I got her from. I'm glad she's there because she's safe and hopefully happy, but after getting used to having her around, it's weird to not have her with me!
Let me tell you about my cat.
Meet Aurora.

hello.
She is a 1.5 year old black Turkish Angora. I got her from a place called the Cat Shoppe, which is basically your organic hippie crunchy cat food resource for all things cat. And dog. She came with her name, and I think it fits her. She's pretty (softest fur ever) and sleeps a lot, so Sleeping Beauty it is. But mostly I just call her kitty or some derivative. I swear, the amount of baby talk that has come out of my mouth in the past three weeks because of this animal is appalling... and you can't even stop it! It just happens. Babytalkorrhea. Mothereseorrhea. Those are real things (not). [slpjokeslololol!]

Sleeping Beauty here loves all things fairytale, including Shrek. Please ignore the dangerous wad of wires and the ridiculous amount of candles I have. Thank you.
I got a cat because I had been thinking about it for a while. Life in Nashville is somewhat lonely, just because it's a) far away from home, b) not full of band everything, c) full of fun classmates but not full of my dearest friends, and d) now it's very not full of a boyfriend. So lonely times and having too much free time/quiet time in my apartment made me want a companion, something to look forward to when I come home besides working out and making dinner and reading about what kind of bottle is best for babies with cleft palates.

"I'm gonna sit in your laundry basket to ensure my hair gets over every article of clothing you own. Gotta do my job all the way."
And really, I am a dog person. I like dogs, the bigger and hairier, the better. A long-haired Great Dane would be ideal. But living in a small apartment and not being home a whole ton is not very conducive to dog-having. It wouldn't be fair to the dog, and it would be stressful for me. So I will wait until I have a backyard to get a dog. Enter: cat. An animal that is fine just chilling at home (chilling=sleeping) for hours and doesn't create much of a mess or need a lot of training. And I don't have to pick up warm poop. Litter-covered poop is fine, but nothing steaming, thank you.

there's a monster in my closet!
So I got a cat instead of a dog. And it's not a spite cat. It's not a "you were allergic to cats and didn't like them and now that you're gone I'm getting a cat so there!" kind of thing. There is no anger associated with this cat. I just needed a friend who would cuddle up with me at those times when I want to cuddle up but only have memories.

workout time!
please don't laugh at my little 5 pound weights. i'm working on it.
And I recognize that if I am ever in a serious relationship with someone who is allergic to or loathes cats, she is not the priority in that situation. But for now, and hopefully for a good long time, she is going to be my friend and companion.
not very ladylike.
I also don't want to be a crazy cat lady. I will only have one cat at a time, and I do not want to be that person who posts pictures and talks about their current adorable creature (catdogbaby) all the time. (My mom is the one who gets all the pictures of her new cat grandchild, actually, haha.)
her favorite spot is as close to me as possible. aw.
So this is my cat, and I think she's great. Except for when she wakes me up at 5:30 am and when she claws my bedskirt and my curtains and throws up on my rug. But I think it's worth it. And it turns out a furry companion is a pretty great way to start feeling more normal again. Thank goodness.
goodbye.
